2026 Umpire Clinics and Registration Information

The Hustlers Zone recognizes the importance of Umpires to the success of the sport. We encourage parents and players to consider umpiring in order to alleviate the umpire shortage that exists in the city and throughout the province. The goal of the league is to have umpires in all junior league games, which can only be accomplished if we can get more interested people out wearing the BLUE!

Why umpire?
-Umpiring is a great way to stay involved in the game, stay active, and give back to the community.
-Umpires play a crucial role in ensuring fair play and sportsmanship on the field.
-Learn more about the game and meet some great people.
-Plus, it's a great way to earn some extra cash and develop valuable skills such as decision-making, leadership, and communication.
So why not give umpiring a try and be a part of the action on game day!

The Zone does reimburse the costs of taking the umpire course.  Umpires can also get reimbursed for equipment purchases up to $150 (lifetime) from SMSL.

How to Become an Umpire

There will be 2 parts to registering as an umpire in 2026. (This includes both an online portion and attending a Face to Face (F2F) clinic).

Step 1 – All umpires must register, pay the appropriate registration fee, which includes the 2026/2027 SC Rule Book via RAMP on our Softball Saskatchewan website. Please note you will receive your SC Rule Book at your F2F clinic, it will not be mailed out. Umpires must then complete all nine (9) of the Softball Canada Online Theory Lessons which can be done on a personal computer, laptop, tablet , or cell phone. The lessons are all separate so they can be completed over one sitting or over multiple sittings, each lesson includes an assessment at the end which must be completed to receive credit for completing the lesson. After the last lesson and assessment is completed , an email with a completion certificate will be emailed to the umpire. This certificate must be saved to your device or printed off and then shown to the instructor at F2F clinic which indicates that all online theory lessons were completed.

It is anticipated the online theory course will take about 3 hours to complete in its entirety. You cannot attend a F2F clinic unless you have first completed the online lessons and can present your certificate of completion at the F2F clinic.  Our Umpire Registration for the 2026 season will open on Thursday Feb. 26th. Step 2 – Attend one of our Face to Face (F2F) clinics to complete your certification. Umpires must present the theory completion certificate to the instructor at the F2F clinic they attend. The F2F clinic will last about 4-5 hours and will focus more on mechanics and positioning.  The 2026 Softball Canada Exam will be done at the end of the F2F clinic.  The link for the Softball Canada Online Theory Course is:     https://softball.ca/programs/umpires/toolbox/instructor/online
